Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce & Industry organised a Special Session on “INSIDE THE MIND OF AN ARCHITECT: POV FURNITURE” on 16 May, 2024 at the Conference Hall of the Chamber.


The Session was addressed by Smt. Monica Khosla Bhargava, Architect, Urban Designer.
Smt. Monica Khosla Bhargava, Architect & Urban Designer in her address introduced the different concepts of the houses that she has designed, namely Skylight House, Rock Villa, House by Canal, Facet House, Terramin and Kham Studio. These conceptual houses are experimental and mainly focus on providing bright light, space and quality ventilation.
While sharing her experience, Smt. Bhargava shared that now the clients want the furniture to be imported from Italy instead of China. She was happy to share that clients now also want the furniture products from India.
She stated that the whole concept of wooden house is a little bit expensive however, her concept is always to create her designs at an affordable rate.
Smt. Bhargava expressed her concern that there is still gender disparity in decision making in this field. Moreover, the number of female architects is also not remarkable.
In the context of her remarkable achievement, she informed that she redesigned the house, namely “Kubhsoorat House” of the famous movie director Hrishikesh Mukherjee in Kolkata and the corporate office of JWT Kolkata.
Shri Srikant Jain, Chairman, Council on Furniture & Wood, MCCI in his Welcome Address said that The MCCI Council on Wood and Furniture was launched in December 2023 and this Special Session is the first program of its kind being organised by the Council.
Shri Jain requested Government to set up Furniture Hub in India. He was hopeful that with active support of the members, the MCCI Council on Wood and Furniture will organize more meaningful initiatives in the future that will add value to all the stakeholders operating in the Wood and Furniture segment in the region.
The Session was concluded with the hearty Vote of Thanks, proposed by Shri Siddhartha Seksaria, Co-Chairman, Council on Furniture & Woodwork, MCCI.
