Calcutta Chamber of Commerce Hosts Special Session on “Artificial Intelligence: The Next Wave”

Kolkata, June 14, 2024 – The Calcutta Chamber of Commerce successfully hosted a special session on “Artificial Intelligence: The Next Wave.” The event featured esteemed speakers and guests, including Shri Debashis Sen, IAS (Retd.), Hon’ble Former Chairman, HIDCO, West Bengal; Shri Sandeep Sengupta, Director, Indian School of Anti Hacking (ISOAH); and Shri Sumesh Dugar, Founder and CEO of Webbles.

The session commenced with a welcome address by Shri Hari Shankar Halwasiya, President of the Calcutta Chamber of Commerce. In his address, Shri Halwasiya stated, “It was an honour and privilege to welcome such distinguished guests to our special session on Artificial Intelligence. This event underscores our commitment to fostering discussions on emerging technologies and their impact on society.”

In his keynote address, Shri Debashis Sen highlighted the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in various sectors. “AI is not just a technological advancement; it is a revolution that can drive social empowerment and inclusion. It has the potential to solve age-old problems and enhance the quality of life for millions,” he said.

Shri Sandeep Sengupta emphasized the importance of cyber security in the age of AI. “As we advance with AI, it’s crucial to also focus on protecting our digital assets. The Indian School of Anti Hacking is committed to training individuals and organizations in safeguarding their systems against emerging threats,” he remarked.

Shri Sumesh Dugar shared insights on the role of AI in startups and innovation. “AI is a game-changer for startups, enabling them to innovate and compete on a global scale. At Webbles, we leverage AI to create solutions that meet the needs of today’s dynamic market,” he explained.

The session also included a comprehensive overview of India’s progress in AI, with references to NITI Aayog’s “National Strategy for AI” and initiatives by the Ministry of Electronics and IT. The speakers discussed the unique strengths of India in AI technologies, the thriving startup ecosystem, and the government’s efforts to become a global leader in responsible AI for social empowerment and inclusion.

The event concluded with a panel discussion moderated by Shri Annurag Jhunjhunwala, where the speakers delved into the complexities of developing regulatory frameworks for AI and the importance of human-AI collaboration.
