Three Generations, One Path: Pathshala 3.0, Creating Confident Learners and Earners in Kolkata This Republic Day
Kolkata, West Bengal, January 22, 2026: When 13-year-old Sonali Sharma first walked into Literacy Indiaâs Pathshala centre in Salkia, she came with a quiet lack of confidence. A Class 6 student from a migrant family in Ghusuri, Sonali struggled with Mathematics and Science, avoided problem-solving, and hesitated to speak up in class. Her parents first-generation school-goers believed deeply in education, yet Sonaliâs learning gaps reflected what many migrant children experience: disrupted schooling, limited learning support at home, and low self-belief.
That hesitation began to shift at Pathshala 3.0, where the centre supports not only children, but the community as a whole. Through hands-on STEM learning robotics, science kits, circuits, sensors, and beginner coding Sonali started learning by doing. Small wins became steady progress. Curiosity replaced doubt. Today, she is performing better in Mathematics, Science, and English, participates more confidently in class, and approaches learning with growing self-belief and enthusiasm.
Sonaliâs journey reflects what is unfolding across Salkia and Chingrighata, where Literacy India supported by Teleperformance, India is strengthening migrant and underserved communities through a three-generation model: quality education for children, empowerment opportunities for women, and skill training for youth linked to livelihoods. By bringing experiential learning, digital tools, and practical pathways together, Pathshala 3.0 is not just improving academic outcomes it is building confidence, capability, and dignity across families, one centre at a time.
Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP), Pathshala 3.0 follows a hands-on pedagogy that allows children to learn by doing. Students conduct science experiments, build models, engage with digital libraries, and collaborate on real-world projects making learning engaging, relevant, and joyful. For children enrolled in government schools, Pathshala provides critical academic continuity through remedial education, self-learning resources, smart classrooms, and structured digital support, helping bridge learning gaps and reduce the risk of school dropouts.
Speaking about the programme, Captain Indraani Singh, Founder, Literacy India, said,
âEducation today cannot be limited to academics alone. Pathshala 3.0 brings experiential learning into the classroom, and links it with skilling, womenâs empowerment, and grassroots business incubation. Our youth are coached on what industry truly expects so they donât just earn a certificate, they discover their potential and prepare for life. With the continued support of partners like Teleperformance, we are creating learning spaces where children from migrant and underserved communities learn with dignity, confidence, and purpose and families grow stronger together.â
Beyond academics, Pathshala places a strong emphasis on livelihood readiness, particularly for adolescent girls and young women. Learners are introduced to digital literacy, communication skills, financial awareness, and entrepreneurship, helping them connect education with real-world opportunities. Vocational training across trades such as tailoring, mobile repairing, basic IT, and digital literacy equips learners with market-relevant skills from an early age.
Second-chance education for girls, smart classroom transformations, and the integration of GyanTantra Literacy Indiaâs digital learning platform enabling self-paced learning, strengthening foundational skills, and supporting improved academic outcomes.
Through employee volunteering, mentorship, exposure visits, and active engagement with learners, Teleperformance collaborates with Literacy India to bridge the gap between education and real-world workplace expectations making learning aspirational and future-ready.
Since its establishment in 1996, Literacy India has positively influenced the lives of 6.1 million children, youth, and women through education, skill development, and livelihood initiatives. Pathshala 3.0 carries this commitment forward, transforming community learning centres into vibrant spaces of opportunity, resilience, and hope strengthening families and shaping Kolkataâs next generation.
