JIS Group Launches West Bengal’s First Private Veterinary College

Kolkata, 14th November 2025: JIS Group announced the launch of West Bengal’s first private veterinary college, “JIS College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences” (JISCOVAS), spread over 30 acres in Mogra, Hooghly, at a press conference in Kolkata. Dignitaries including Sardar Taranjit Singh, Managing Director, Dr. Promit K Ghosal, Project Coordinator, JISCOVAS, Prof. (Dr.) Mozammel Hoque, Principal, JIS College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Shri. Bidyut Majumder, Deputy Director, Business Development, JIS Group and senior officials of JIS Group & JISCOVAS were present on the occasion.

The college offers a five-and-a-half-year programme in Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.), which includes a one-year compulsory internship as per the norms of the Veterinary Council of India (VCI). The college is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences (WBUAFS), Kolkata, and recognised by the Veterinary Council of India. The programme has an intake capacity of 80 students per academic session.

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates must qualify in the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) and secure a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English in their Higher Secondary (10+2) examination for General Category students. Relaxation in marks applies to candidates belonging to reserved categories as per government norms. Applicants must be between 18 and 25 years of age.

Separate hostel facilities are available for boys and girls. International students from various countries are also eligible to apply, subject to the regulations of the Veterinary Council of India (VCI).

Campus and Facilities:

JISCOVAS has an integrated campus with a state-of-the-art Veterinary Hospital and Farms. The hospital is equipped to treat both large and small animals, offering radiology and diagnostic laboratories, an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Outpatient Department (OPD), and Inpatient Department (IPD).

Dedicated Operation Theatres (OTs) are equipped to provide specialised facilities in surgery, orthopaedics, gynaecology, dentistry, and ophthalmology, along with a dedicated Isolation Ward for the treatment of infectious diseases.

The campus features its own ‘Fodderland’ — a dedicated stretch of land cultivated for fodder production, ensuring a consistent and nutritious feed supply for the livestock.
